This award was “something very special” not only for Tom Friedl. As one of the best examiners, he completed his training as a toolmaker in the Cologne Chamber of Industry and Commerce district — and was awarded the overall grade of “Very Good” on the big stage. Employer EXTE also received a certificate for “Outstanding Achievements in Vocational Training.”
Drilling, grinding, turning and machining — creating exactly the right parts for EXTE extrusion tools at the Wipperfürth site in Wipperfürth: That is what Tom Friedl learned from scratch in the toolmaking department at the specialist for roller shutter box and window accessory systems and completed it with top test results. In practice and theory, he is one of the top trainees in 2023, and at the same time he was the only one in his vocational school who had reduced the training to become a toolmaker to 2.5 years. This involved “a lot of effort and effort” for the high school graduate. And so it is now a “great feeling to have both the journeyman's certificate and an additional best certificate in your hands,” says the 22-year-old. The award was presented at Motorworld Cologne: Around 400 trainees have achieved “very good” degrees in 150 different occupations throughout the Cologne Chamber of Industry and Commerce district.
Great recognition
Thomas Ganz, Head of Tool and Mechanical Engineering at EXTE, is also pleased that Tom Friedl is one of the best examiners: “We are always training new talents. The 'Best Training Company' certificate is also a great recognition of our work and our commitment to making tomorrow's employees as fit as possible for the working world. “The family-owned company has been attaching great importance to well-founded training for a long time. As a reliable employer in the region around Wipperfürth, EXTE qualifies young professionals in eight professions as required, ranging from the commercial sector to IT specialists for system integration to industrial mechanics or even machine and plant operators.
By the way, the recently awarded toolmaker Tom Friedl has known the company from an early age. For the son of managing partner Dan Friedl, it was “really interesting to become a practical part of the EXTE family even in production.” In doing so, he was able to benefit from a wealth of expertise, was directly involved in everyday work by experienced trainers — and also appreciated the “very friendly relationship within the entire team.” Following his journeyman's certificate, the 22-year-old is now continuing to saddle up; he has been studying industrial engineering at the University of Paderborn since October.
